Goa: In a major boost to India’s maritime security and defence indigenization efforts, Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) successfully launched ‘Achal’, the fifth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) in a series of eight being constructed for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
The launch ceremony was held at the GSL shipyard in Goa and graced by Kavita Harbola, in the presence of Additional Director General Anil Kumar Harbola, Commander, Coast Guard Western Seaboard.

The 52-meter-long, 320-ton vessel is powered by a CPP-based propulsion system and is capable of reaching 27 knots, making it ideal for high-speed maritime missions.
Designed with more than 60% indigenous content, ‘Achal’ was built under dual-class certification from the American Bureau of Shipping and the Indian Register of Shipping, emphasizing India’s push toward Aatmanirbharta in defence manufacturing.
